Aim Answer: What are parallel lines?

What are parallel lines?

Parallel lines are lines that are paralleled to each other on a line graph. In order for the lines to be parallel they have to have the same slope. For example, if the equation is y=2x+1, a parallel line would be y=2x-5. Also, they can't have the same y-intercept because it will be the same line, and it wouldn't be paralleled.
In the graph below the lines are paralleled. The equation of the black line is 2x+2. The reason they are paralleled is because the blue equation has the same slope and a different y intercept.

Aim answer: How do we relate graphs to events?

How do we relate graphs to events?

We can relate graphs to many things. We can relate it to our lives or even events that happens. For example, you can graph the amount of seconds it takes someone to type 500 words. Also, you can graph about how long it takes to walk to school in minutes. These are some examples of how we can relate graphs to many things and events.

Aim answer: How do we write the equation of a line in slope-intercept form?

How do we write the equation of a line in slope-intercept form?

The equation for slope-intercept form is y=mx+b. Y is the point of the y1 or y2, m is the slope, x is the point of x1 or x2 and b is the y-intercept. If you had the two points (1,1) and (2,2) you then will have to find the slope first which is 1. Then you will have substitute the x1 and y1 or x2 and y2. if you substitute x1 and y1 you will get 1=1(1)+b. If you substitute x2 and y2 you will get 2=1(2)+b. Then you solve for b. For the first equation b equals 0. And for the second equation b equals 0. Then the equation overall is y=1x+0 or y=1x.

Aim answer: What is direct variation?

What is direct variation?

A direct variation is a line that is formed by points. The line has to be straight and it has to go straight through the orgin, which is (0,0). The equation of the line is the form y=kx. If the line doesn't go through the orgin it isn't a direct relationship. If the line isn't straight its not consider a direct relationship.

Aim answer: How do we find the domain and range?

How do we find the domain and range?

In order to find the domain and range you would need to know what the x and y axis is. Domain is on the x axis and the range is on the y axis. The domain in this graph is -3 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 3. Since it starts at -3 and goes to 3 so the domain can be anything between it. The y axis or this graph is -3 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 6. The range can be between -3 and 6 on the y axis.

Aim answer: How do we use and transform formulas for particular variables?

How do we use and transform formulas for particular variables?

If you want to get a particular variable you will have to solve around the other numbers or variables. For example, if a question says solve for y and the equation is 3y+9=3x+21, you will have to get y by itself. In order to get y by itself you will have to subtract 9 because you have to do the opposite  Then you will get 3y=3x+12. Then you will have to divide by 3 to get y by itself. Then you will have y=1x+4. That is what you will have to do to get particular variables.

Aim Answer: How do we solve absolute value equation?

How do we solve absolute value equation?

When you are solving absolute value equation you have to solve for x or what ever they say to solve for. When the equation has absolute value around it you have make two equation out of it. So if you have [-2x-4] =4 you will have to make it -2x-4 =4 and -2x-4 =-4. Then you just solve it like a regular equation. If you get it right you will get x =-4 and x =0
